A coalition of states has filed a lawsuit against Delaware challenging the state’s collection of more than $150 million of unclaimed money orders in the United States Supreme Court. Morris Nichols partner Michael Houghton spoke with The News Journal regarding potential effects for the First State in the article entitled, “Money Order Lawsuit Could Impact State Budget.” Mike has advised Fortune 500 companies and others on unclaimed property issues for more than 25 years. He is co-chair of the Uniform Laws Commission Drafting Committee to Revise the Uniform Unclaimed Property Act.

Wilmington, DE (March 31, 2016) - Eric Schwartz was a guest lecturer at Georgetown University McDonough School of Business.  Mr. Schwartz lectured on the subject of corporate fiduciary duties in a distress situation to the Corporate Restructuring class of students in the masters in business program.   Mr. Schwartz' hour-long lecture covered the challenges officers and directors face in a distress situation and their duties and alternatives.

Wilmington, DE (March 18, 2016) - This week, Lex Machina released its 2015 Patent Litigation Year in Review report, which analyzes filing trends, key decisions and timing to key events, as well as settlement rates, damages and other U.S. patent litigation data over the past year. 

Based on an extensive review of data compiled using Lex Machina’s Legal Analytics® platform, the study found that Morris Nichols again led Delaware firms in patent litigation activity with 251 cases. The findings reinforce Morris Nichols’ reputation as the leading Delaware patent litigation law firm.
