Morris Nichols Promotes Kate Betterly, Brian Egan, Michael Flynn and Dan Matthews to Partner
Wilmington, DE (December 26, 2017) - Morris, Nichols, Arsht & Tunnell LLP is pleased to announce that Kate Betterly, Brian Egan, Michael Flynn and Dan Matthews will become partners, effective January 1, 2018. “We are thrilled that these outstanding attorneys will be partners at Morris Nichols, and we congratulate them on reaching this milestone in their careers,” said Rodger D. Katherine H. Betterly joined Morris Nichols in 2001 and is a member of the firm’s Commercial Law Counseling Group. Her practice involves a wide spectrum of national and local transactional matters including business acquisition agreements, financing transactions (including matters involving UCC Article 9), bankruptcy-related transactions and other general contract law matters. Kate also focuses on commercial real estate and unclaimed property matters. As a member of the UCC subcommittee of the Commercial Section of the Delaware State Bar Association, she actively participates in drafting updates to the Delaware Uniform Commercial Code. She is a 2001 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Law School where she served as associate editor of the University of Pennsylvania Journal of International Law.
Brian P. Egan joined Morris Nichols in 2015 as special counsel in the firm’s Intellectual Property Litigation Group. He represents technology companies in cases involving patent infringement, trade secrets and other litigation matters. Brian has experience with a variety of technologies, including medical devices, semiconductors, pesticides, cosmetics, and consumer products. Prior to joining Morris Nichols, Brian worked for more than ten years as an associate and counsel for a prominent New York law firm. From 2006 to 2007, he served as a law clerk to The Honorable Cynthia M. Rufe of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Brian graduated cum laude in 2004 from the American University Washington College of Law. Prior to graduating law school, he worked as a patent examiner at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, focusing on applications in the chemical arts.
Michael J. Flynn joined Morris Nichols in 2009 and is a member of the firm’s Intellectual Property Litigation Group. He represents clients in a variety of industries as lead or Delaware counsel in litigation in the District of Delaware. His practice has a particular focus on web-based technology, networking, biotechnology, and consumer products. In 2016 and 2017, Chambers USA named Michael an “associate to watch” in Delaware intellectual property. Michael graduated cum laude, Order of the Barristers in 2009 from Tulane University Law School where he served as appellate chairman of the moot court board. Prior to law school, Michael worked as a public policy consultant, hosted a public affairs radio program, and owned and managed several entrepreneurial businesses, all of which cemented his technical background.
Daniel D. Matthews joined Morris Nichols in 2009 and is a member of the firm’s Delaware Corporate Law Counseling Group. Dan advises public and private corporations on a wide range of Delaware corporate law matters, including corporate governance issues as well as mergers and acquisitions, and other complex corporate transactions. Dan also counsels boards of directors and board committees on fiduciary duties. Dan is the author of The Delaware Corporation: Legal Aspects of Organization and Operation, a Bloomberg BNA Corporate Practice Series Portfolio. He earned his J.D., Order of the Coif, in 2009 from the College of William and Mary Marshall-Wythe School of Law where he served as senior articles editor of The William and Mary Bill of Rights Journal.
