Lex Machina 2014 Patent Litigation Review: Morris Nichols Again Led Delaware and U.S. Firms in Patent Litigation Activity
Wilmington, DE (March 27, 2015) - Yesterday, Lex Machina released its 2014 Patent Litigation Year in Review report, which surveys and summarizes the key trends that have emerged in U.S. patent litigation over the past year.
Based on an extensive review of computerized data, Lex Machina reported that Morris Nichols again led Delaware and U.S. firms in patent litigation activity. “Morris Nichols is a patent litigation powerhouse, handling more cases in 2014 than any other Delaware firm - or any other firm in the nation,” said Owen Byrd, Lex Machina’s General Counsel. “And their 1,051 open cases last year represented an almost 75% increase from 2013.”
Lex Machina also reported that, in 2014, the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware saw the most patent cases go to trial (with 29) - 14 jury trials and 15 bench trials - more than twice the number of trials in the second-highest jurisdiction.
