On April 11, 2025, the US District Court for the District of Delaware granted a motion for summary judgment in favor of Johnson & Johnson subsidiary DePuy Synthes, Inc. and affiliates in a medical device patent infringement litigation concerning DePuy Synthes’ TFN-ADVANCED™ Proximal Femoral Nailing (“TFNA”) system used in orthopedic surgery.

Morris Nichols IP litigators Brian Egan and Cameron Clark defended DePuy Synthes, along with Jack Blumenfeld. Both Morris Nichols and co-counsel Patterson Belknap were highlighted in Law360’s “Legal Lions of the Week” feature for their work on the case.

In granting the fully dispositive motion for summary judgment of invalidity for lack of enablement, finding all fifteen asserted claims (across two patents) invalid, the Court cancelled a trial that was scheduled to begin April 28, 2025.
