Delaware State Bar Association Honors Michael Houghton with Outstanding Service Award
Wilmington, DE (November 20, 2014) - The Delaware State Bar Association has selected Morris, Nichols, Arsht & Tunnell LLP partner Michael Houghton as the 2014 recipient of the Award for Outstanding Service to the Courts and the Bar. Established in 1999, the award is presented to a Delaware attorney or judge who, by exemplary service to the Delaware Courts and the Delaware Bar, has substantially assisted the Courts and the Bar and has strengthened public trust and confidence in the courts in the state of Delaware and the administration of justice. Past recipients include prominent Delaware judges and private practitioners.
A leader in local and national bar activities, Mike has served on various bar and professional association committees including the Board of Directors of the Delaware State Chamber of Commerce and the Executive Committee of the Delaware State Bar Association, among others. Currently, he is a member of a Legislative Task Force examining, and making recommendations concerning, Delaware’s Unclaimed Property program. Mike is also Co-Chair of the Uniform Laws Commission Drafting Committee to Revise the Uniform Unclaimed Property Act, legislation which forms the basis for the law of unclaimed property for over 40 states. He is the immediate past-President of the Uniform State Laws Commissioner.
Mike has helped draft and enact numerous pieces of Delaware legislation including, most recently, the Prevention and Remedies for Human Trafficking Act.
On Dec. 11, 2014, Mike will join fellow DSBA honorees at an awards luncheon at the Hotel du Pont in Wilmington, Del.
